Episode Summary
This week, @PaulButlerLennox spoke with director David Burke and Dr Phil Kennedy ahead of the release of the fantastic "Father of the Cyborgs". It plays at the IFI and selected Cinemas across the Country NOW!!!.   To say It was very humbling to speak with the subject of "Father of the Cyborgs" Dr Phil Kennedy, is a massive understatement.   David Burke's film was four years in the making. "Father of the Cyborgs" is the fascinating story of Neuroscientist Dr Phil Kennedy. Phil Kennedy made global headlines in the late 1990s for implanting wire electrodes in the brain of a ‘locked-in patient’ to control a computer cursor with their mind. Compared to Alexander Graham Bell in The Washington Post, Kennedy became known as ‘The Father of the Cyborgs’. Travelling to South America in 2014, he made further headlines when tiny electrodes were implanted inside his brain in order to continue his research. This film examines the ethical quandaries of self-experimentation and a future where technology and human brains combine. A very very special episode about a fantastic piece of Documentary.  Congratulations all on a brilliant, fearless subject.  Father of the Cyborgs is an incredible piece of work and we couldn't encourage you strongly enough to go and see in the cinema. It's out now.  For anyone kindly willing to donate to Phils research here are some links: 1] The Silent Speech Foundation web site is SilentSpeech.org 3400 McClure Bridge Road, D402, Duluth, Georgia 30096, USA. 2] 'Unlocking Erik: A freedom journey to restore speech to those with the locked-in syndrome.'
