Episode Summary
The second episode of Film Network Ireland's new podcast series that goes behind the scenes of Irish film & tv, hosted by filmmakers, Paul Butler Lennox and Paul Webster. Mia Mullarkey, of Ishka Films, is a documentary & drama director and she's had a hell of a year, picking up a plethora of awards and receiving funding from the Irish Film Board. She talks about her career to date and how her background in psychology informs her filmmaking choices.
In 2016, she received funding from the Irish Film Board to make a short a documentary about the Mother & Baby Home in Tuam. The film will have its premiere at the Cork Film Festival in November.
Throwline tells the story of Taxi Watch, a suicide prevention organisation set up by taxi drivers in Kilkenny. It won best short documentary at the Galway Film Fleadh. See trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OLNETUBsV4
She co-directed a documentary that follows three characters suffering from Parkinsons disease and the team of Galway scientists that are trying to find a cure. It will be broadcast as part of RTE Science Week See the trailer Feats Of Modest Valour here: https://vimeo.com/204337126
