Level up your social media with DMs! - Lindsay Dollinger
00:01 Hey, hey, this is Lindsay Dollinger and I am the podcast host of the Purpose, Profits and Pixie Dust podcast and a lead Gen coach for women entrepreneurs. And this is going to be a replay of one of the days of a free challenge that I LED all about finding your perfect strategy for the generations. This is specifically for a type called Social Media Maven so if you want to take the quiz 1st to see what type you are, you can head to lindsay dullinger dot com forward slash quiz it will be linked in the show notes for you. But if not social media mavens, what I talk about in this short training should honestly I think be done by everyone regardless of what type of lead Gen you do and that is how to sell in the DM so I hope you enjoy this training.
00:48 If you have questions, reach out definitely take that free quiz so you get your type and if you are a social media maven, you will get even additional resources. And then whatever type you are, you also get additional resources for that type as well so you definitely want to take the quiz. But without further ado, let's dive into selling in the Hello, we are here to talk social media mavens. So if this is your quiz type, you want to pay extra attention today.
01:18 Even if this is not your quiz type, I would encourage you to pay attention today and still do the task because no matter what, I think having a social media presence online for your business and for your personal brand is extremely smart it's a great strategy. The majority of people that we know are most likely on social media, especially if you were in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and all of all of those places where I feel like social media has just really opened up doors for us to reach a lot of people. So today's strategy, as I promised short sweets to the point because if you are social media maven, you've got the PDF in the email with your quiz results and that walks you through an entire road map of tips and strategies that we're not going to dive into because they're all there for you.
02:06 And this is just an additional 1. So today we are going to talk about the power of the DMS and let me know i would love to know in the chat or respond to this if you're getting us in an email. Let me know if you already are having meaningful conversations in the DMS, specifically in regards to ideal clients and hope you know, people that you want to work with in your business i would love to know if this is already a strategy for you, if this is something new or you're a little shaky on, and let's dive in. So social media is for one-on-one connection you know, social media is meant to be social, but I think a lot of times we think about the posts that we make, maybe even the stories that we make if we're in Facebook groups, if we're not, and different strategies on the word facing portion of the platform, But we're not necessarily thinking about what can be going on behind the scenes, specifically in the DMS.
03:01 And so the first thing that I want you to think about when you think about starting this as a strategy is go ahead and look at your followers look at who's already commenting on your posts and on your reels. Look at who is viewing your stories or responding to your stories. These are people who are already engaging in your content and they're raising their hand and saying, hey, I want to be a part of your world or your world is interesting to me. And so they're what we would would call essentially your warm leads. These are the leads especially that we get to nurture in the DMS now, even if people have not raised their hands, they haven't interacted yet doesn't mean you can't get in the DMS with them.
03:42 But just know that please, please, please don't immediately go in with the pitch don't immediately go in with ways that you can, you know, solve all their problems and save their life and all of this because it's it's a little overwhelming, at least for me on the other end i know I don't love getting those emails, those DMS, you know, Hey, thanks for following do you have a skin care routine? And I'm like, girl, can we like, can we like date a little bit before you go right in and ask for marriage, right? So my goal today is that we really develop a strategy for you and the DMS it doesn't feel icky that you enjoy doing and it doesn't take a lot of your time.
04:17 So first thing first, like I said, identify your warm leans these are going to be the people that are probably hopefully going to be easier for you to talk to. And let's create a simple framework for Adm outreach and it's going to have three parts. Three parts. The first part, greet and make that greeting personalized i love it when people say people's names because you most likely know that that's not a copy and pasted message or if it is, at least they took the time to, you know, change out your name and make it a little bit personal.
04:46 So I like to include their name. And then the second part of the framework, it's going to go along with the first reference something in their interaction with you or from their profile so please check out people's profiles before you just randomly send them Adm, especially if it's someone who maybe you haven't seen their stuff in a while. There's nothing worse than getting Adm when this has happened to me, when you're in the hospital, when someone has just passed away, when you're home and you're really, really sick, right those are huge turn offs.
05:17 And at least for me from experience, when I get these DMS from people and I can tell, you know, they either want a conversation or being a business coach, I'm like, OK, they're, they're trying to warm me up to, you know, but they're doing it the right way so I don't mind having the conversations, but also just read the room, right read the room a little bit, get a little bit of intake, especially if they've lost someone or they have something tragic going on in their life. Not the time to probably send the DM unless you're just sending Adm like, hey, you know, I'm thinking of you, I'm praying for you.
05:46 Totally different for sure. So reference something in their interaction with you or in their profile so in this kind of is going to depend on what sort of relationship you have had with him, if any. But you know, hey, I saw that you're getting ready for a trip to, I don't know, to Florida or you're looking for places for Florida. You know, these are some places that I really, really love and This is why. So reference something in your greeting and in your message with them and make it short sweet you don't have to send A5 paragraph message to them in the first because it's hopefully a conversation back and forth.
06:21 And then the third piece of this framework is to ask an engaging question so something more than a yes or no question or offer something helpful like a tip or a freebie. And I like to do this a lot. I like to send people podcast links because podcasting is something obviously I'm a podcaster, but you know, I listen to different podcasts all the time and so there's a lot of times where I will see either posts or it will make me think of someone in my audience i'm like, I really need to share this podcast with them. And so that has been a way for me to open doors into conversations with people so super simple.
06:59 Greet and personalize the step one. Step 2, reference their interaction with you or something on their profile. And Step 3, ask an engaging question or offer something helpful like a tip or a freebie. And then the third part of this whole thing, so 1 was identifying our worm leads, 2 is crafting your message, and 3 is going to be building relationships. So focus on actually listening to what the people are telling you back and responding genuinely instead of pitching immediately. Again, an immediate pitch unless they ask you, you know it's not going to get you the results you want most likely in the long run.
07:39 So take this time this is definitely something that, you know, it's going to take some time, but nurturing the people who are in your audience, you know, maybe it's greeting people when they start following you, like on Instagram for the first time or when they send you a Facebook friend request. You know, that's totally fine to reach out hey, how did you find me? You know, this is what I do on my page. And I like to do this when people join my free Facebook group, I send them a message and I say, hey, if you ever have any podcast topics you'd like to hear on the show, send me a message i'd love to help you out or support in any way.
08:10 And most people at least like it they don't necessarily respond sometimes they do and we have some really good conversations. So you never know what kind of responses you're going to get back, but be prepared to respond to those people so they respond back to you. Don't leave them unread for like a day or two or three. You know, make this a part of your strategy where you send 5 messages of these, you know, at a certain time and then maybe you come back to your phone in a half an hour or two hours later to respond to any responses that you have left so that you're not in the DMS all the time.
08:40 Unless this is like your number one strategy and I know for some people that it is for me, it is not necessarily, but it is something that I know that I get to do even more of and lean into even more of if I want better results when I do my launches is just creating those relationships with people because we're in a relationship business. So the actionable takeaway for you today is I'm challenging you to send 5 personal DMS today using this framework so I'm going to go through one more time.
09:08 Great and personalize. Reference their interaction or profile and ask an engaging question or something or offer something helpful like a tip, a freebie, a podcast link, etcetera. And bonus points for you if you have some sort of a Google doc or a Trello board or something where you can keep track of these people's responses to see how it sparks conversations and leads this is a great day to start this doc. Start it. Type in the fight people's names, type in you know something that stood out about the conversation, type in whether you are going to follow up with them in a certain amount of time, etcetera.
09:43 So I hope you liked this tip for my social media mavens today. Even if you're not a social media maven, it's a great shot of you to use and I would love to hear and hold you accountable when you do it so let me know when you do it, tag me in your stories and I will see you back for day 2. Bye bye.
