Gumroad for Easy Memberships - Amber Louise

00:02 Welcome everyone. Today we're talking about Gum road memberships made easy. My name's Amber and I'm your host today. And I'm a digital business consultant who's passionate about helping entrepreneurs create sustainable income streams through platforms just like Gum road. So over the next 20 minutes, I'll walk you through setting up and running your own membership program. 

00:29 So here's what we'll be covering today. 

00:35 We'll sign up and we'll log into Gumroad. We'll sign up, we'll look at our profile and our bio or biography. We'll look at the products page and set up a product, then publish and talk about promoting that. And also we'll cover a few final tips. So what I'd like to do is hop on over to my screen so that I can share the Gumroad portal with you. 

01:10 Just as we do that, we're going to have a look at a real live example of how to set this all up. So opening up your browser, type in gumroad dot com forward slash login. Now you can sign up using your Facebook, Google X, previously, Twitter, Stripe, or simply use your email and a password and once you have signed up, you can log in and this will take you to the home page within Gumroad. Welcome to Gumroad. So over on the left hand side of the dashboard, you can see that we have home products, a few other things that we won't go in today like collaborators, your checkout emails, workflows, sales, analytics, layouts and a few other things here, especially settings is important for us today because we have nothing set up in the platform yet. 

02:22 No products, no courses or memberships. So we want to make sure that we can create those. But before we do, let's have a look at our settings. 

02:34 Now you want to go through and make sure that you've turned on all of these notifications if you want to be emailed about them. So purchases, recurring payments, comments and reviews when you receive reviews on your products, you'll get a notification via email. Make sure that you set up a support email for your customers so that they're able to see that on their receipt on purchase and reach out to you if they need to set up your local time zone and also what the currency that you wish to sell in. 

03:16 So we'll leave that today as US and US dollars. 

03:22 And then you'll want to pick out the profile tab. This is your username, but the name of the business here so you can display your full name lady Boss Biz Group is what I have decided to call mine, but the URL or profile is ladybossbiz. Dot <a href="gumroad.com">gumroad.com</a> So that's where your customers will go when they want to purchase from your store this URL that you can share with them a short biography. Now if you can see over here in the preview, the text is quite large so for my bio, I don't want too much written in this box, just a very short simple bio which describes who I am and what I do. 

04:19 Now, a logo this is a simple logo. This one is created and designed within Canva and you can hop in and do something like that yourself if you don't already have a logo. 

04:34 So a few other things you can connect to your ex account and this this will allow, I believe, a stream, but they don't have very many social inks i think it is just this one, the X and then the design. This is over here in the preview on the right hand side, how your store will be displayed. So we've got a few different fonts, modern and bold serif, Merryweather Roboto slab into an ABC favorite so I will keep it at that. Then your background colour, I'm keeping it at white and highlight colour pink, which represents my brand. Few other things team. So within team you could invite your accountant, an admin, marketing assistant or support assistant so essentially your virtual assistant, if you have one, or anybody that you want to come in and help you to create products, to deliver emails and workflows, to check out sales and analytics for you. 

05:47 You can make them an administrator so that they are able to do everything that you can do within your platform on Gumroad or as an accountant where they're able to see our sales and analytics. So that's an option that's up to you. Other things that you'll want to do are setting up your payments we won't go through that right now, but you can check these tabs out when you pop on to Gumroad and login. You can also take a look at the advanced feature and you can learn about setting up a custom domain so that it's, say your name, Amber, <a href="louise.com">louise.com</a> <a href="ladybossnomad.com">ladybossnomad.com</a> if I wanted to connect my domain there. 

06:36 Ok, so now what we want to do is once we've looked at all of the settings, we want to hop on over to our products page. 

06:51 Here's our products page. Now, as you can see, we do have affiliates as well and collabs we won't go into those today, but that's something you'll want to check out yourself. So let's create a new product. 

07:08 You can either select that in the top right hand corner or here in the middle of the page. Now let's call our product membership. 

07:23 And let's select the appropriate product for our membership right here start a membership business around your fans. So that's what we'll be selecting today in this example. As you can see though, we have digital products, which is for download or stream courses or tutorials, selling a single lesson or teaching a whole cohort of students ebooks. So these are your PDFs and other formats for delivering ebooks. 

07:55 You can also sell bundles, sell two or more existing products for a new price once you've created digital products here. And then we also have services as well. Today we're selecting membership, so we have that highlighted and let's just say the price of our membership is 7$ a month. 

08:25 So that looks great to me. Next, we want to customize that product. 

08:35 Now in here we can add text, we can write about our membership we can also add a bulleted list or a numbered list. We can give it a header, a title. We have a few options here to make it bold, italic, underlined. We can also add in links and insert images. We can insert a video, insert a video from YouTube or upload them. We can create buttons and we can also have dividers and upsells. Upsells are for other products that you already have we may have a digital ebook or a course that you'd wish to upsell. 

09:20 Remember over here in the preview, you can see what you're creating. So let's describe our product, let's call this pay membership.

09:48 And then how about we add in a? We'll just edit that there, 

09:58 Add a bulleted list and in the bulleted list we might say are Co working days,

10:29 Ok and then perhaps we might like to add in an image here so we can insert that. And let's insert this image, which is quite nice that reflects what my membership is about. And we might say up here it's for female entrepreneurs. And then perhaps we want a bit of a call to action so let's remove the bulleted list, just go text. And we might want to insert a button and have a URL there if if we wanted to. Or we could just simply write some text in here which says.

11:30 And then perhaps we could make it bold. And I quite like that. 

11:42 Oops this one is not going to go back to text for me. It wants to be a bulleted list. That's OK you can fiddle around with that and then as I said, you can pop over here and you can preview what this looks like. You can also change this here and just call it membership. For instance, 

12:14 Give it a cover image so we can add the photo that we've just uploaded and today should we wish. 

12:28 And then while that's uploading, there we go. Let's also upload a thumbnail quite like this one.

12:44 Now in the summary, we can list those things that we spoke about in the bulleted list, Co working days,

13:09 So we might want to add some details as well. We could do that. So Facebook group and another Co working days. 

13:27 Templates, business templates, here we go. No integrations we don't want to invite them to a circle community or discord. Not for this purpose. Tiers now we could have say, a bronze, silver and a gold tier. I think I'm just going to have the one monthly tier, but I'm also going to have quarterly, every six months and every one year should people want to sign up.

14:17 And then maybe we'll want to offer a free trial of one week.

This is where the beauty happens, where you can add different pages so let's say you want to have monthly pages, or you can have different topics. I'm going to have a few different pages so first I will have welcome. And then let's say this is content every month, so January,

16:34 Course, that would be your Facebook group, though. Now you can also, once you've done that, you can add in images as well. So perhaps you just want to upload an image. 

16:51 This is just here embed media or computer files just in embed media upload so you can also have a YouTube video there you could insert your image.

17:11 Now that has been done and then in here, in your January content, you may have monthly coaching is on the seventh.

17:40 And then we could have here there's a list of your monthly templates. 

17:57 And then underneath that you could embed media computer files you can add your PDF links here, perhaps checklists, anything that you have it could be a video that you've recorded for them as unlisted on YouTube and you enter that in here. 

18:18 You can Add all sorts of templates and media into your membership. So this is just to give you an idea of how you would do this, all right? And then in each month, you would follow the same process or these may be topics. This is essentially the same as what you would do for a course, but we're setting up a membership in this instance. Ok, so publish and continue. 

18:48 Now we can share that on Twitter, on Facebook, we can copy the URL and we can email our audience fantastic we have just set up our basic membership. Now we haven't covered Gumroads fees, but if you have a look there are some some helpless topics and you will be able to read about the pricing of Gumroad, how they collect and generate revenue for themselves off of your products. Currently it is free to sign up with Gumroad. 

19:24 However, the Commission that Gumroad receives, as I said, pop on and have a look at their help help desk and they will run you through how they collect fees and a Commission from your products. So let's preview that page of the membership that we've just created fantastic so there we are. There's our membership, 7$ per month. Here's what is included in the membership. Here's a little overview. 

19:59 They can subscribe to this membership, purchase it. They can select monthly, quarterly, every six months, or yearly, and I'll just show you what that looks like when they hit subscribe.

20:49 And then that gives you access. So that's how you create a really quick and simple easy membership within Gum Road. Now I just want to show you a few other things before we wrap up. Something that I find really handy is I have a WordPress website and what I'm able to do is my VIP day. I'm able to embed that as a product within my WordPress website there is a widget that you can hop on to WordPress and have a look at so that you're able to do this.
