05 We're halfway through the year, and if you're feeling like you could use a boost of clarity and renewed energy to make the rest of the year truly exceptional, you're not alone. Perhaps your initial intentions need a refresh, or maybe you're simply ready to design the next six months with greater purpose. I'm Kathy Robinson and I love supporting my clients as they connect with their inner inspiration to build practical strategies for success. Today, I want to share a powerful process called Future Self Planning. It's all about creating a compelling vision for what's ahead and a clear path to ensure the rest of the year aligns beautifully with your deepest desires and aspirations.
57 This approach allows you to craft a deeply personalized plan for the remainder of the year that's not only holistically oriented but also intrinsically motivated, driven by your inner desires rather than external pressures. When you invest a little time upfront to vividly visualize your future self, that version of you thriving at the end of the year, and then create your plan for the remaining months, you're not just setting abstract goals, you're forging a powerful emotional connection to your desired outcome. You begin to see yourself in a very real and tangible way as someone who has already achieved those intentions.
48 This creates A potent sense of optimism and a deep seated belief in your ability to succeed. And it's what truly fuels your momentum, provides clarity on your priorities, and helps you stay on track, especially when those inevitable challenges arise. So what exactly does this future self planning process look like, especially as we navigate the midpoint of the year? I'm going to share the five step process that I use with my clients and personally as well. If you head over to the Swag Bag, there's also a resource package that includes A guided future self visualization audio that I highly recommend, along with a detailed workbook to support your journey.
40 Here are the five steps number one envision your future possibilities. Envisioning helps you see the breadth of possibilities that still lie ahead this year and allows you to create a plan that consciously moves you toward that compelling vision. Think of your vision as your internal compass. It influences your habits, how you choose to spend your time, and the people that you surround yourself with. Given its profound impact, it's wise to invest a good amount of thoughtful time here as it will ultimately save you effort in the months to come by ensuring that your actions are aligned with what you truly desire.
29 I like to begin this process with a brainstorming exercise focusing on key life areas. You can use these prompts for journaling or mind mapping, and a worksheet is included in the PDF freebie for this talk. Here are some key life areas to consider. Your dreams. What kind of life do you want to live by the end of the year? What would you like to experience in the coming months? What motivates and inspires you when you think about the possibilities ahead? Your contributions. What kind of impact do you want to make throughout the rest of the year? Think broadly. Your contributions can be in your career, your relationships, your community, and your own personal growth, including health and Wellness, spirituality, creativity, and your life journey.
29 Next, your values. What kind of person are you striving to become this year? What qualities and principles are most important to you? What gives your life a sense of purpose and meaning next your potential? What do you believe you can achieve in the remaining months of the year? How can you best leverage your existing strengths and identify any blind spots that might be holding you back? How can you allow yourself to dream bigger and expand your horizons? Lastly, your legacy. What kind of mark are you looking to make on the world? How can you positively influence it in the remaining months? More broadly, how do you want to be remembered for how you lived and what you achieved? After you've considered these questions, I highly recommend engaging in a more formal Future self visualization.
34 The visualization I included in my resource package was adapted from an exercise developed by the Coaches Training Institute. It's proven to be incredibly insightful for myself, my coaching clients, and my students. It's especially helpful if you had difficulty with any of the prompts that I just LED you through. I hope you give the future self visualization a try. I think you'll agree it's an invaluable experience for transcending limiting beliefs and familiar boundaries, allowing you to tap into a deeper understanding of your potential and desires.
16 Once you've brainstormed, jot down a few intentions that you'll focus on for the remainder of the year. Step number two create an environment for growth. Environment is defined as the surroundings or conditions in which a person lives or operates. This includes everything from your physical living and workspaces to individuals that you spend time with and the information that you consume through watching, reading, listening, And that includes social media. All of these elements exert a powerful influence on your thoughts, beliefs and overall mindset.
03 As we move into the second-half of the year, it's an opportune time to consciously design an environment that positively influences your focus and motivation, increasing your ability to take consistent action and minimize distracting noise. With your intentions for the rest of the year clearly in mind, take a fresh look at your physical spaces and your social support network. Are they conducive to the person that you're striving to become by the end of the year? I'll give you some suggestions, but keep in mind that you probably just need to implement one or two minor adjustments to make a measurable difference.
50 Here are the suggestions. Consider a mid year declutter, both physically and digitally. Clear out any clutter in your home or workspace that might be creating mental fog or draining your energy. Unfollow or mute social media accounts that leave you feeling negative or unproductive. Next, think about the people you're spending the most time with. Are these relationships nurturing and uplifting? Do they align with the energy and focus that you want to cultivate for the rest of the year? It might be time to consciously limit your interactions with individuals who are consistently draining your energy or undermining your goals, and instead seek out connections with those who inspire and support you.
46 Next, consider the information that you're consuming. Are the books you're reading, the podcasts that you're listening to, and the videos you're watching contributing to your growth and positive mindset? Be intentional about what you allow into your mental space. Perhaps it's time to subscribe to inspiring newsletters, listen to podcasts that expand your knowledge, or engage with content that fuels your creativity and motivation. Lastly, consider the tools and information you need to support your intentions for the rest of the year.
28 Do you have easy access to the necessary resources whether there are books, online courses, supportive communities, or specific equipment, make a conscious effort to gather and organize these resources to set yourself up for success. To create immediate momentum, I suggest identifying one small environmental change that you can make today that aligns with one of your key intentions. For example, if your intention is to expand your pool of business collaboration partners, schedule a half hour each Monday morning with the sole intent to network for this purpose.
13 Small, immediate action send a powerful signal to your subconscious mind and make it easier to follow through on your intentions. Step number three Focus on your area of influence. This step is all about how you frame your intentions for the remaining months. It's about shifting your focus from uncontrollable outcomes to consistent, controllable effort. For instance, instead of setting an outcome focused intention like I will achieve X amount of revenue by December, you might reframe it to an effort focused intention. I commit to dedicating X hours per week to strategic business development, making X number of outreach calls and sending X number of follow up emails.
09 Focusing on effort rather than solely on the outcome shifts the emphasis from a potentially unreachable external target to the daily actions that are entirely within your control. This approach is far more sustainable for motivation, and it's also what builds positive habits and momentum over time. As you identify your intentions for the rest of the year, consciously frame them in terms of the consistent actions that you'll take. Consider each of your key intentions for the rest of the year and ask yourself, what specific action can I consistently take that will move me closer to this? Breakdown those larger intentions into smaller, manageable steps that you can integrate into your daily or weekly routine.
04 Progress is made through consistent effort in your area of influence. Step number four create your future self habits. Here's a quote from author Shane Paris. Habits are algorithms operating in the background that power our lives. Good habits make us reach our goals more effectively and efficiently. Bad ones make things harder or prevent success entirely. I love that quote. As we move into the latter half of this year, it's a perfect time to consciously cultivate new habits that will propel you towards your future self vision. Let's consider 2 important questions. The 1st is what habits would your future self, that thriving, successful you at the end of the year consistently practice? And the second, what small, manageable steps can you begin to take today to further develop and integrate those habits into your daily life? Think about the key areas of your life that you want to see progress in in the next 6 months.
21 In your personal life, If your future self is someone who prioritizes their physical health, what daily habits do they have? Perhaps it's starting the day with hydration and movement, preparing healthy meals or getting consistent sleep. What small step can you take today to move in that direction? Maybe it's setting your alarm 15 minutes earlier to stretch or to pack a healthy lunch. Now consider your professional aspirations. If your future self is a successful thought leader, what daily habits do they embody? Perhaps it's dedicating time for strategic thinking, actively surveying the business landscape, or consistently working on the communication skills. What small step can you take today? Maybe it's scheduling time for focused content planning or reaching out to a colleague for a meaningful, thought provoking conversation.
21 This mid year point is an excellent time to introduce impactful habits that will support your vision for the rest of the year. It's the consistent small actions that compound over time and create significant change.
39 And Step 5? Reflect, adjust, and celebrate. This final step is where everything comes together in a practical and sustainable way. As we move through the rest of the year, it's essential to build in regular time for reflection and adjustment. Here is an overview of the process that you can adapt to best suit your own needs. I suggest keeping it light, engaging, and focused on learning and growth. Regular reflection schedule dedicated time to look back at your progress in relation to your intentions for the rest of the year. What steps did you take? What felt good? What felt challenging? What did you learn? You can use the worksheets in the freebie PDF to track your progress and insights along the way.
40 Next, identify what's working and what's not During your reflections be honest with yourself about what strategies and actions are moving you closer to your future self vision and what's not yielding the results that you hoped for. Don't be afraid to pivot or adjust your approach if something isn't working. Don't forget to celebrate your wins. Acknowledge and celebrate your progress, no matter how small. Recognizing your achievement builds momentum and reinforces positive habits. Did you stick with your new morning routine for a week? Did you complete a challenging task? Take a moment to acknowledge your effort and success.
26 Plan your next steps Based on your reflections, Plan your actions for the next week or two. What are the most important steps that you can take to keep moving forward? Breakdown larger tasks into smaller, manageable ones. Stay flexible. Life happens and unexpected events can derail even the best laid plans. Be prepared to adapt and adjust your plans as needed. The future self process is a guide, not a rigid set of rules.
07 As you navigate the second-half of the year, remember that you have the power to consciously design the future you desire. By taking the time to envision your future self, create a supportive environment, focus on your area of influence, cultivate empowering habits, and consistently reflect and adjust, you're actively stepping into the life you're meant to live. The future Self planning process is a powerful tool for creating lasting change and living with intention. I encourage you to give the five steps a try and watch as you gain greater clarity, motivation, and fulfilment in the months ahead. I truly hope this approach empowers you to set inspiring intentions and take consistent action to realize them. 18:01 My wish for you is that you live the remainder of this year and all of your years to come by conscious design rather than by default, because the best way to predict your future is to create it.
