00:00 Hi and welcome to this Jumpstart my name is Angela Mondor and I'm also known as the Geeky Girl today we're going to talk about your mid year business boost. Ok, I'm excited to get involved in this with you today and I can't wait to tell you all about the really cool things I have for you. So you might ask yourself, why now what's the purpose of doing a business boost? Now, Angelo, and I'll tell you this, it's always important to reflect inside our business, to figure out where we're at, to decide where we want to go as things change in the world or inside our own lives, with our families, or even inside the business.
00:34 There's opportunities for us to make adjustments as we move through the year. And why not do it at the mid year? I encourage you to do it 4 times a year. So a mid year business boost is a fantastic one to get if you haven't done 1 yet, OK? The important thing to remember is this is not about the hustle this is not about burning out it's not about trying to do way more than you ever thought you could possibly handle.
00:56 This is about getting things done in a way that works for your brain, a way that allows you to be successful on your own terms, OK? Because what's really important about all of these things is that it needs to fit your life it needs to fit your schedule, it needs to fit your energy levels. That is what's going to bring you joy inside your business. So if your year is already not go on to plan, then you're in the right place. You are in the right place at the right time. I got you. So step one, the first thing I want you to do is reflect. And you might say to me, Angela, you know what i can't even remember what I did last week.
01:31 How do you want me to reflect back on six whole months? And I don't want you to do a deep dive i don't remember every single little thing you do, but I want you to think back on how this year has felt so far. Depending on where you live and the politics that have been involved in your lives, there might be a lot of things happening in the way that you feel about your business as well as what's happening in the world. And use some of that when you do your reflection on this video i just want you to do a quick dive i don't want you to go deep.
01:57 You definitely can do some journaling later to go a little deeper if you feel like it's going to be helpful. But right now, let's just focus on what felt great in this first half of the year, What was energizing you throughout this entire first half of the year? And then what are some things that drained you what were some things that you thought I could really live without this right now? And then also think about your goals maybe you haven't taken the time to formally write your goals down, but that's OK. You know where you wanted to head this year with your business and so I want you to reflect on that right now.
02:28 What is it that you were trying to accomplish this year? And I want you to think, does it still fit? Are those the same things that I want to accomplish right now or does that need adjusting as well? Ok, So I want you to know that it is normal to need to deviate or take a turn or come off the path a little bit in order to readjust what's happening inside your business. Reflection inside your business is normal. It is an important piece inside your business. And yes, there are some reflection methods that can be super overwhelming for you. If you try to do a deep dive where you're digging into metrics of things and trying to find answers for things it can be really difficult to do when you're trying to just do a quick overview of how you're feeling my simple tip is that if you don't even know where to begin, you can go to Chechi BT and just say, hey, could you help me do a reflection on the last six months of my business? Can you ask me questions that'll help me to find some surface level reflections make sure they know you don't want to do a deep dive it's just give me some surface level questions, ask them one at a time and wait for my answer before you ask the next one.
03:36 It'll help you get your thinking mode in place it might help you find some answers to the questions you didn't even think you needed to know. Then we're going to talk about energy aligned planning next. All right, this is where we get to do the reset. Think about this this is the next six months, and I encourage people to do these kinds of things quarterly so technically, these next six months, you can break them out into two things. I want you to reflect on maybe one or two priorities. Oh, maybe three oK.
04:06 And you're going, Oh my gosh, Angela, I have like 900 of them. Ok, but hold on a second we want to talk about one to three possible large priorities. And you can do 3 in this first six months and you can do 3 in the next 6 months. So technically you could do 6 trying to help you out with the numbers here, but you don't want to focus on so many things all at one time because that just leaves for overwhelming confusion and analysis paralysis. So let's think about what we really want to focus on. What do we want to feel how do we want this next six months to feel and what do we want to create what are the things that are going to energize us in the next 6 months? So write those 3 priorities down you might want to pause the video to take some time to do this as well, but break them down into these one to three larger categories and like I said, you can do it for this quarter and for the the next quarter as well so you can have two going and then focus on the first three months that you have right now and then you can break them out into smaller pieces.
05:04 So you can take one big priority and break it into smaller pieces and break that into smaller pieces and continue to break those down until you have smaller tasks that you can actually take action on. Ok, so progress looks different for everyone and encourage you not to compare yourself to other people because you don't need to be comparing your everyday life to somebody else's highlight reels. That's the truth. You can only see this top surface of what other people are doing. So when we compare ourselves to that, we're leading ourselves to failure in terms of comparing ourselves.
bn05:39 All right? So yes, it looks different for everybody, but the important thing is here we're trying to build a plan that's exciting for you and not exhausting. All right? So now, now once we know what our priorities are, we've done some breaking down of what those priorities look like, break them down into smaller pieces now we can start the rebuilt. Now you can look at how you can get things done in a way that works for you. Now, I have lots of neurodivergent tendencies and maybe you do as well. I definitely have some things that impact me more than others and here's some things that maybe might be helpful to you moving forward.
06:15 So when you're looking at planning and how maybe planning is difficult or even how the execution of the plan could be difficult for you, there are some ways to work with these things to help you to make sure that you're getting the most success out of your entire time that you can. Now, I talk about energy based planning a lot, or scheduling. Time is my number one love language and time and energy go hand in hand. There are times when I have more time and less energy, and there's other times when I have a whole lot of energy and not a lot of time. And there's times when those two things are super balanced i have the same amount of time and energy to go through the things, and it's important for me to understand what that looks like if I don't have time and I don't also have energy, then I know that I need to be careful about what I plan in my day.
07:03 But if I have a lot of time and a little bit of energy, then I can probably do more it's just that I'm not going to be as efficient at those things, right? And if I have a whole lot of energy, I could be way more efficient. So knowing those things about myself, the rhythms that happen inside myself, you know, sometimes I get sideswiped by those things i don't realize that I'm going to have a bad day, and that's totally OK too.
07:23 But having this repository of actionable items that I can pull from because I've broken those big tasks down into smaller tasks, I can just go, OK, I can work on this and I can work on this. I'm going to put that one off till tomorrow because I can't get it done today there's just no way it's going to happen. Whether it's time or energy, it's just never going to happen on that particular day. But I don't have to worry about the big tasks because I'm worried about the actual actionable items and knowing that if I'm getting those done, I'm working towards the bigger goal.
07:50 That's what helps me a lot. Now, some of the other things that can be helpful for you is body doubling. I love body doubling and I do it in a lots of different ways. I can actually physically body double with somebody where I have somebody with me in the same room doing the same doing things that's one way to do it, but I can also do it online. So not only do I have communities of people who are looking and working in the same sort of direction that I am, we're entrepreneurs who all want success inside the world.
08:17 We can get together and work on pomodoros together, but also my team members i can literally message my VA and go, oh, are you working right now? Do you want to do a pomodoro i really need somebody who can work with me, Body Devil with me, and she's also neurodivergent, so it works for her as well. Those are some ways that I can help to stay on track, especially if I'm struggling if I have a little bit of time to get something done and a little bit of energy and I know I really need to get the thing done, Body Devil can help.
08:45 There's a third type of body doubling and that's either listening to an audio book, music, or watching ATV show that doesn't require a whole lot of brain processing anyway. I definitely have some TV shows in my repertoire that require way too much attention that I really have to be sitting watching the video, like watching the TV show in order to consume what's happening. But there are also other shows that I don't need to pay a super a lot of attention to. But it's background noise. I don't know if you've heard that concept about needing to be 100 % busy. Body doubling that way can be very helpful for that.
09:19 Knowing that I'm only using this much brain power to do this task and I'm having a hard time doing it. I can feel the rest of the brain power with body doubling on audio or visual or you know, video, that kind of thing. I can have that going on the other side. So that's another way that I use body doubling. Audio books are fantastic for me to get my house cleaning done, put the audio book on and I can clean and do the things I have to do.
09:44 So remember, do it work for you. That's what's really important. One of the other things that could be helpful is maybe you're a visual person and you need to be able to deal with things in a visual way inside your physical even. Maybe you like sticky notes and once you're done your sticky notes, it's great to be able to like couple them up and toss them into the garbage or something. That could be something that could be valuable for you.
10:05 Or writing your list down and then checking them off your list or creating something in click up or some other product management system where you can check off and see those things that you've checked off day after day. Maybe those things give you the dopamine hit you want. There's no one way to do it there's no one right way there's no one wrong way and to be honest with you, I use a lot of these tactics all the time.
10:28 So one might work for me for a little while and then I need to switch to something else. Or one might work really well all the time, but this one really helps me right now. And I'm still doing this one under here as well so maybe I'm doing sticky notes and I'm doing stuff and click up. It doesn't matter how you get things done it doesn't matter what works for you and any particular time it's yours to design you get to choose what you're going to use now and if you're somebody who likes that fresh energy of trying something new, having multiple tactics can be a great way for you to still get things done that you need to get done that might normally be mundane, but you're doing a different tactic to get it done, which brings a little zig and a zag for you.
11:06 Just remember, you're not broken. You just need a system that feels like you, that feels like it's going to be happy for your brain as opposed to something that you're trying to drag yourself through. Ok, I want to encourage you to be playful, to find energy and joy. Experiment with these things. Try different tools, try different colors of pens, whatever works for you. But try them, give them a, you know, a decent amount of time to try them as opposed to just saying, oh, that one didn't work 10 minutes ago. Now give yourself a couple of days, but fill your toolbox full of these kinds of things that you can pull out and try when you need an oof, one day.
11:46 All right. Now, I did mention earlier that you could do some deeper journaling, and I do have a free resource for you that should be linked below this video. This journal prompt is all about designing your ideal day. And I will tell you, the first time I did this thing, I was like, oh, this is garbage. But I did it anyway. I went through, I did the exercise and I tucked it into a drawer thinking, yeah, whatever.
12:09 And then it came across the paper that I had written out in a notebook, probably, probably close to a year after. And I read it and went, Oh my gosh, these things actually came true these are the things that I really wanted and I was able to create them. Now I use this purposefully. Okay, so this same exercise that I'm giving you, I use this all the time and I do it very purposefully. I can actually design the day that I want and I can look at it and say, what do I need to change in order to get closer to this ideal day that I'm looking for? And I use that to help me plan my business to I give myself a chance at having a way better time inside my business and doing the things that I actually want to do inside my life as well.
12:50 Ok. So I hope you enjoy it. I know that it's going to help you to envision a life and a workflow that supports your strengths and brings you joy as well. It is definitely something that I have had a lot of value out of in my time oK. Because your business should be a reflection of your brilliance. It shouldn't be a battle everyday inside your brain. So remember this, the first thing I need to do is to reflect i encourage you to do it often. I like to do it monthly. Side note anyway, I encourage you to reflect on your business do a surface level what is it that you're thinking about? How does how does your business feel right now? Where do you want to feel what do you want to feel? Then reset now you can clarify what is this next step going to look like for me and how do I want to change it to make it what I want it to be? And then allow you to rebuild and change what you're doing inside your business to bring you closer to those things.
13:39 Make sure that you're mindful of your energy levels as well as your time, and to create systems that work for you and your brain and bring you energy and joy rather than overwhelm i hope you have a fantastic day thank you so much for being here with me i appreciate you have a fantastic one. Bye for now.
