00:00 Hello and welcome to your training on setting Mailerlite up for success. I'm Katrina Rowley, also known as Cat Rowley, and I run Empower Tech Academy, where I empower entrepreneurs like yourself to master their online business tech. And I have done for you services for those things that you'd rather not master. And today we're going to do a speedy run through of Mailer light and how you can set it up to make creating newsletters, etcetera, as easy as possible so let me shrink my face and let's get looking so this is a free Mailer light account here i've got, as you can see, I've not really done anything with this account, but we're going to see how you can set this up for success.
00:45 So this is where you come when you sign up and this is your dashboard. And what you want to do is you want to come down here on the left hand side to account settings. When you click on that, you can Add all your information in here, the company name, website URL, etc. And if you had a pro account, you could remove the Mailer Lite branding from the bottom of all emails.
01:09 This is where we really want to go here is default settings to the sides here. And in default settings you can choose what the sender name is so perhaps I don't want the sender name to be Fat Quarter Quilt perhaps I wanted it to be Cat Rowley. And you could choose what the sender email is here. And you can decide if the recipient's name will be displayed in the to field of their email client. So that's your choice there. Now you want to put in a default logo here. If you put a default logo here in here, then every time you use a template, which I'll show you in a minute.
01:50 Every time you use a block in the templates that has a logo element in it, it will automatically pull this logo in for you so you don't need to add it every time. And if you change this, you want to force the update so for example, I've just rebranded as Cat Rowley in my business and when I changed my logo to Cat Rowley, I forced to update which made things so much easier. Down here you choose your font family, so this means that you can have it look as on brand as possible. There are quite a few choices here, if you don't find the exact one that you used, choose one that's similar or one that you feel will be easily read in an email.
02:38 Now these two here, primary and secondary colour are actually aim to do with your buttons so you can have two preset colours for your buttons, your primary buttons that would be the one that would be used the most and a secondary colour for if you were wanting second colour. And what you do to change this is you just click on it and you can paste in or type in a new hex code.
03:04 Now these ones with the hashtag before them are called the hex code and they usually have 6 letters and number combinations to make them up the other thing you can do is you can drag this about to find what you wanted. Just realized I should have saved what that colour was before I moved it. Never mind, I can come back and do that. Yeah so over here is your other colour, same thing you could drag that by and if you actually don't like the hex code, for example, some people have an RGB code, which is a series of three sets of three numbers, you could pop that in there.
03:45 And also HSL, which I have never used i don't know about HSL at all. I have different hands UPS there. But if you know the codes, you can pop them in here. So for example, I usually have my Canva Bram kit open and I would just copy it let's just use this Control C or Command C if you're on a Mac. And then when you click here, you highlight it and Control V or Command V and that is your color setup there heading color quite self explanatory.
04:17 That would be any big titles that you use. This is your main text color. And if you have a border and anything, this is the border color. Now whilst these are your brand settings that will be the automatic settings. You can still change these. So you don't need to forevermore have a border color this color for example and you can change your text to be a different color for example. And then down here, if you are doing your tracking opens, this is a good idea. If you have analytics, you can link it up with analytics so I would tick these and you can set that up. Automations again oh, for some reason I'm not tracking there.
05:00 And as I said, I don't do anything with this account. So basically campaigns are your normal emails that you send like your newsletters, and you want to have your social links or whatever links you want in the bottom set up here because again, these will automatically populate whatever little template block you pop in that has the social links. And this is where you can put in your data. If you want to change your unsubscribe text, you can have it here. Otherwise it'll just say unsubscribe the standard bit at the bottom. 05:40 And automations here is exactly the same, but your automations will be any,
05:47 Any sequence of emails that you've set up to automatically send. Oh, OK. So they are the most important things to set up to make it easy to create your your own brand and newsletters, for example. And then if we pop here to domains, it's important that you authenticate your domain now this has become so much easier if you have access to your email not your email to your website domain. So that means if you can sign into, for example, Ionos or GoDaddy or wherever you've got your domain from, and you can see the back end of your website, which is where you would change the settings.
06:33 Not just where you would change the front stuff that people see, but the stuff at the back end. If you can change the DNS settings, then when you come in here, it will ask you to authenticate it and it will automatically run you through the steps. So you no longer need to be understanding what you're doing you can let it run its thing for you. So that is so much easier and you don't need to add a custom domain here, but you could if you wanted again, that's more advanced than this training today.
07:09 So those are the main things here, yes. And so we go back to dashboard. So we now should have been in account settings and we should have set up our default settings that's the main thing we did just now. And now we're back at the dashboard and we are going to look at creating a campaign. I'm going to show you how. See, I haven't even sent an email with this account, and you're going to set a regular campaign and we're just going to call this test for now but you would have.
07:42 A name that helps you identify what it is, and then the subject line is the one that your readers will see. So again, I'm just going to call that test and the pre header is the bit that comes just under the subject line so if people are looking on their phone or on their computer, they'll see the subject and then they'll see a little bit of the pre header underneath so it's an opportunity to entice them some more to read your email. Here is where you will choose who's going to receive your emails you can say all subscribers or choose one of your groups that you have.
08:23 And then what we need to do is we need to do the content so next is the content. We're going to do the drag and drop editor. And here you can see it's got my logo that I had put in and it's automatically put in the purple title, the orange button. And these will have my links see, when I hover there, if you can see down in the bottom left hand corner, it says my Facebook link is fat quarter quilt. Dot co. Dot uk and my Instagram same. And then the YouTube string of information and Pinterest.
08:58 And so you can see there that this says you've signed up to this email because you've signed up on our website and made a purchase unsubscribe so that's why I didn't change anything. That's the automatic one if you don't change anything. And again, this header here is in purple. So all of these things that I had set up at the beginning are now set up here in our email. And let me just show you how, if you brought in a block that has your logo in it, so this one up here on the top says logo.
09:29 And I'm going to drag that in here and you can see it has popped the logo in so I didn't need to go and click on the replace image and put it in. It automatically did that for me. And again, if we get another section, so if we look at the footers and if we grab, for example, this footer here, it's got a company logo and the social, I'm just going to put it up at the top so we can see it.
09:52 You can see there, it's brought in my logo. And again, it's brought in these.
09:59 Links already populated. My title again is the purple, and all of that is set up in the font that I had chosen now I can change this and then I can save it for future use. So for example, if we're clicking here, perhaps I would prefer to have my social links in color so what I can do here is I can go and choose for them to be circles and I could choose for them to be in color. And there you go, you can change them and if I love that, what I could do is I could click here on first of all, I'm going to save it.
10:40 And then I could click here on the ribbon. And you can see here, there's a ribbon over here that says save blocks. So if I click on this ribbon and I can obviously I'm just going to call it test and I can save it. And now that has been saved so if I go in here and grab this block, it now will bring it in, see how they're identical. And if I decide that I want to put the social icons back to being square and I want them this time to be gray yeah. And now if I click on the ribbon and I'm going to click on update existing block and it's going to give me an option to drop down, I'm going to choose the name test because that's what that block was called and save and update.
11:29 And now when I bring the block in, you'll see that it has square gray icons for the social media. So that is how to set your Mailer Lite up for success. So you will have all your branding ready in there for speedy editing. You will be able to save blocks for speedy editing. I'm going to show you one more thing and that is once you have sent an email, So obviously I haven't actually sent this, it's in my draft, but imagine I had sent it. I can now go into duplicate or if it's a sent one, it'll say copy to drafts. And then when I duplicate that, that means that I can then just go in and say I've chosen my header, my footer, and I know exactly what I want.
12:21 I can now go in and justice edit it instead of starting from a blank template or from, you know, needing to edit everything. So I hope that has helped you be able to set your mail light up for success. I hope you know now how to go in and set up your branding, how to save some template blocks and how you can reuse an email that you've already sent to speed up the creation for future emails. Now, I always suggest that you have your own face at the bottom of your emails so that people can remember what you look like and can get to know, like and trust you. So if you are looking for some Canva templates to help you do that, follow this QR code on the screen here or the link below and you will be able to download some free Canva templates that will help you create an image that you can pop in as your signature that will help people remember who you are and get to know, like and trust you.
13:24 I hope you've enjoyed this presentation and I was Cat Rowley.
