Hi, I'm Elizabeth Neumann, I'm a business automation strategist for coaches, course creators and service providers. And I focus on simplifying marketing and sales automation with a strategy first method.
00:12
So if you've ever had an email not send a funnel break or automations go kind of chaotic, it's not always the tech, it could actually be from missing a strategic plan. So let's talk about how to fix that and, and why strategy first. Automation helps you avoid those tech fails and saves hours of stress.
00:32
So why these tech fails happen Some of the most common causes Could be.
00:38
Just building out automations or funnels without a mapped out journey And so this can look like Deciding to build out a new offer And just getting like working on getting the funnel set up and, and not really looking at the overall strategy of all the funnel pages and the different automations and making sure that everything is working correctly with the tags and the right emails are going out at the right times for anyone who purchases that product.
01:05
For example It can also Be from having too many tools that are just kind of like duct taped together Which is very common online Just from having old tools maybe that were being used and then getting new ones and then maybe having some things still in the old tools and some in the new And trying to connect it all It also can come from having tools that overlap when it comes to having some of the features.
01:32
So maybe they're very similar but one had an extra feature and you have both And then It's trying to connect, maybe in some cases connecting one of those tools to your automation and then maybe in another automation connecting the other tool. I can think of this example can be sometimes from calendar software Maybe there's a calendar software that someone's using and they've connected it to a certain type of call and then use a different calendar software to book calls for a different type of call. And so it ends up then getting very confusing as to what's being used. And.
02:06
Instead of looking at the strategy of narrowing it down to just using one and getting everything switched over The other reason That tech can fail is because automations are triggered in the wrong order or not at all or, or they're just set up incorrectly. This is actually quite common.
02:25
Because of the different steps that can happen with automation or especially if you're using and connecting with like third party tools so that you can get like two tech tools talking to one another It can just cause different things that can happen.
02:39
So I've seen people lose leads because of a missing tag or a trigger that's not working and it just broke the whole system So for example, I had a client who had told me that in a past launch that she had done, she had emails going out late because the tags weren't being applied correctly. So she had actually spent that whole week of the launch troubleshooting, trying to figure out what was going on with the tag and why the emails weren't going out correctly instead of taking out that space and showing up for her audience in the best energy possible.
03:09
So at that point I was working with her now, getting everything set up for her next launch. So we started by mapping everything out in advance and building out all the right touch points according to the plan we created and then being able to test all her automations after I built them out to make sure that they were working before the launch.
03:28
And so that ended up helping a ton because the launch ran a lot smoother than the one that she had mentioned previous.
03:34
And she actually got to focus on her audience and was able to connect with them better and felt a lot less stressed, which is always amazing.
03:43
So what strategy first automation can look like is mainly you want to plan for first and have the general.
03:50
Idea of what's being done with all the details in between and then being able to build second.
03:56
So this could start by maybe mapping out your funnel or the automation workflow on paper, if you find that easy Or you can do it digitally.
04:06
And then from there you can decide what gets automated, where the automations happen and why, and really see if it's necessary to have that automation there As different.
04:16
People are coming into your world and being able to connect in different ways and maybe based on the different actions they're taking. Like for example, if they purchase a low ticket item that you have that would be different from someone who's just come in and got your lead magnet.
04:32
So just understanding the overall of how your business is set up from the strategy Part when it comes to tech and automation, and then looking at how this new funnel or workflow that you're creating fits into everything.
04:46
Then it's also a good idea to choose the tools that you're going to be using, whether you have something you're already using.
04:52
Or maybe you might need to switch at that point if there is it's not working for you anymore, or you might just want to take a look and see if maybe what you do have does work. You just might want to look at the features and different things since software is usually being updated. So there could be something now that's added that helps you with what you're trying to do.
05:11
So this all will help you troubleshoot a lot faster. You can test with a lot less stress.
05:17
You'll know a general overview of what is being set up or what is already set up in your automated systems and it'll help prevent tech breakdowns later So Another example of a client was that.
05:30
This client had this amazing funnel and a great offer, but some people just weren't getting her follow up emails. And so we were able to pause and we mapped out the lead journey since she hadn't done that in the first place and be able to see when someone's coming in to that particular funnel, what is happening, what emails they're getting, what tags they're getting.
05:49
And being able to get segmented as someone who has taken that particular action And then Through that we realized that she had actually skipped.
05:58
Setting up the correct tag After people were registering for one of her lead magnets. And so that was back when she had first created it, so time had passed and then.
06:08
She realized that the emails weren't sending out and this was the reason So it turned out to be a simple automation fix. But it was after we went through the strategy and got and then we were able to get her nurture emails back back on track and re engage those dozen of leads So no matter what.
06:26
Funnel launch lead magnet you're working on.
06:29
If you take the time to map it out first, the tech does become a lot easier to manage and then you're able to understand And see.
06:36
Where the pieces fit together and be able to go into your tech a little easier and be able to find the certain automation. If you want to make a change or something you've tested, you just want to change it up or change an email and you just need to know where it all connects And it also.
06:51
The strategy does give you Clarity and then clarity makes everything more scalable As you have more people coming into this new automation or funnel that you're, you're creating.
07:02
So if your automations keep failing, it is definitely time to slow down. Take a look at the strategy, see how it all is connected with everything else in your back end of your automated systems and then for anything else that you're building, then focusing on the strategy first. Automation makes your systems easier to manage and way less stressful.
07:21
So if you'd like to connect, reach out to me on LinkedIn or Facebook. I'd love to hear what funnels or automations you're building. All right, bye for now.
