Meet Samantha
I help others create rock solid courses & memberships, & become better instructors
I have years of experience instructing adults, helping others with their courses, workshops, etc. You don’t need a background in education to create good solid courses or be an entertainer to be a good instructor.
Until you find your instructor type & style, really lean into it, create from that base, and get an experienced guide with a map & plan - it might be a struggle and a cycle of start-stall-restart though.
Random things about me- I drive with my windows down so I can smell the world as I travel through it. I have music playlists with long labels like “sitting on a car hood on top of a mesa at night".

0:00 Thank you to Cat Griffin and her amazing team for the opportunity to be here. And thank you for being here.
0:12 Your team, your family, and anyone else. I'm Samantha Ross with Runaway Lime. Like, my fruit decided to run away. And I help everyday people create rock-solid courses and memberships.
0:22 Little bit about me. I started instructing years ago at a college. I'm an expert in my field with no background in teaching.
0:30 It was super challenging, to say the least. And I watched a lot of people fumble and quit. I am stubborn and curious and needed a paycheck, so I figured out how to be good at it.
0:42 The biggest moment of AHA was discovering everyone has a different teaching type. And when you lean into your type and create from that base, everything in course creation and presentation is easier.
0:55 Hey, but right now we're talking about the important pieces of information that you want to include in your welcome sequence and why.
1:03 And there's no need to write down anything, because there's the checklist that I go over later. You can sign up for it.
1:09 So let's check out a good example first. I just bought your membership. You send me an email with the details I need to know.
1:16 I get a lot of emails every day, and I don't get around to checking it until the end of the day.
1:21 Plus, I found you for the first time in a bundle, and I signed up for several things. So, even more emails today.
1:29 It's easy to spot yours. It has the membership name in the subject line. It also says Welcome and Instructions. Inside the email is the link to where the membership site is located at.
1:40 Since it is a live membership that happens every week at various times, it gives me the dates, the times, and how long it'll be.
1:47 And it happens on a social media platform that you have included an up-to-date video link for me, in case I don't know how to use the social media to attend.
1:55 Thank you for not assuming that I would know this. I don't know need it, but I think it's awesome that it's there.
2:02 There's also login information to your site with links and some teasers about what's in there. Ooh, nice. Gonna go check that out.
2:10 And there's a picture of you. Yep, I remember you. And you included links to all of your stuff like your website and the membership site, and there's a brief about you also, and the best way to reach you.
2:22 Wow, I think all my questions are answered. Sweet. I'm good to go. I am excited. It's in my calendar, and even though it doesn't start for a month, that's cool.
2:31 I moved some stuff around. I'm logged into your site and know where to go. Now let's check out another example.
2:38 Renee had this amazing membership I signed up for, and that's not her real name, by the way. It starts in three weeks.
2:45 I get a congratulations-slash-thank-you email. It has the name of the membership, but it's not in the subject line. And all it says is basically, quote, as we get closer to the start date, the details will follow.
3:01 Unquote. And that's all that's in the email that she sent. Nothing else. I guess I don't need anything else. I thought there was a course that went along with this, but maybe not.
3:14 There's nothing here about it. I signed up for several things. Wow, this is hard to plan for. There's no dates.
3:20 I do remember that it was two to four times a month, and it was a live thing. But I don't remember where it's supposed to be at.
3:26 And, again, it starts in three weeks. So, I keep checking my email. Nothing. Two days before the start date, I finally get the login info and the link which I have to create an account for.
3:37 Luckily, it worked. But I didn't read the email until a few hours before the live start date. Man, scramble to change my day around.
3:45 Let's not be Renee. We want our people to show up. We want them to have an incredible experience. We want them to brag about us.
3:54 But if they can't find us or don't know what to do, that's okay. That won't happen. Which is why we want to include the following pieces of information in our welcome email.
4:04 And this is just a very brief checklist. I go over it in greater detail with a bigger checklist in my main program, but this is the bare minimum that should be included in the welcome email.
4:15 We need information about the course and the membership. what they just purchased, because there is a lot of email. So you want to refresh and re-excite them about what they just got.
4:27 Be sure to put it in the headline, the name of the thing they just got. Include the link to where the member site, where the course is located at.
4:34 And you want to include this at the beginning and at the end. If there's live event information, we need to know where it happens.
4:42 Don't just give me the link. Where does this actually happen? Because I don't it's all gobbledygook and I usually can't read the email link.
4:48 So what's the name of the place? Is it Zoom, Facebook, Mighty Networks? Because they might need to create an account.
4:55 So include the link to do so. When does it happen? How long it happens for? If you say one hour, but you have a half an hour Q&A after that, that's super important.
5:06 Then it's not really an hour. It's an hour and a half. And you're peeing people need to be able to plan for it.
5:12 Give them the dates and the times if needed. Is it every week? Every month? Does it change? What about login information?
5:19 How and where to create it? Is it provided by you? And how do they reset their password if there is a password?
5:26 Do I need to be able to access several pieces of software or sites? You know all this stuff. But me signing up for your membership, I don't.
5:35 The other thing that's really important that you include is some about you information. Give a brief one to two sentence about you.
5:44 And it's best if it relates to the thing they just bought. How do they reach you? Is email best? Social media?
5:51 Get on your calendar? Include a link. Give them office hours or contact hours. Let them know if they have questions or comments, what the expected response time will be.
6:01 Include your website and your link. Include a picture of you. And you probably already put most of this in the sales page, but they need it again.
6:11 Because remember, that sales page is now gone. So that's the bare basics that you should include. You can get the important courtesy links.
6:20 And membership welcome pieces, the bare basic checklist. It's in CAT's bundle. Thank you, CAT. So thanks again for being here.
6:28 And thanks for all those that support you. Thanks to CAT and her team also. I'm Samantha Ross with the Runaway Lime, helping you create amazing courses that start off by tapping into your instructor type.
6:40 So you can generate a map and plan that works for you. Have a really great day.
