Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Creative Work Hour podcast. My name is Greg and in the room today we have Alessandra, we have Bobby, We have Devin, Dr. Melanie, Andy, Shadows Pub, Jennifer and Ken. Today is November the 24th, 2024 and this month is National Podcast Post Month.

Greg
00:30
This is our entry. I start by asking a question to get the conversation going and we'll go from there. So my first question, if you could travel anywhere for inspiration, where would that be? And I'll go to Alessandra.

Alessandra
00:48
That is such an easy question. But this time last year, I didn't know where that would be. And in doing the Creative Work Hour in-person tour with Devin, we went to many cities.

Alessandra
01:01
We went to 16 different cities for 23 visits with our creator's last year, and at least that many again this year. But what has come out of it is I got to really take a look at what do cities have to offer me as a creative and do I find the city overwhelming or underwhelming and so looking at those at those 2 indices I was able to pick leads in West Yorkshire in the UK for my creative dream city. And so I looked at 1 apartment and that apartment is where we're hosting from every, every day that I'm home. And the flat here in Leeds is in the creative district of Leeds.

Alessandra
01:56
So I think it's just a perfect place for us. So that is my wonderful place in the world that I go for my creative life. And I'm so thrilled to be identified. Yay.

Alessandra
02:07
Thank you, Greg.

Greg
02:08
The age and the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Bobby, if you could travel anywhere for inspiration, where would you travel to?

Bobby B
02:17
Wow. Still a bit mood driven, but there's places I try and go back to as often as possible. And 1 of the easiest is Sandstone Peak above Malibu here in Southern California. It's a fun hike and when we get to the top, you've got views over the entire Santa Monica Bay.

Bobby B
02:41
If it's windy, you can see 100 miles to the east to Manzanar Gonio, Mount San Jacinto, and out towards the Channel Islands. I have sat up there for hours at times just writing and coming up with beautiful thoughts. So that's 1 of my recurring places that I know wraps its arms around me and lets my mind open.

Greg
03:07
It sounds really beautiful, really beautiful. Devin, how about you? Where would you travel to?

Devin
03:13
Oh, that's easy. The Shetland Islands. And can't fully explain that.

Devin
03:19
That's just my jam. That just makes me vibe with that. So if I had to, if you said you've got to go somewhere and create something, That's where I would go. It's colder in the Shetland Islands, right?

Dr. Melanie
03:36
It's

Devin
03:36
cold and it's stormy with rocky coastlines and all the best things.

Greg
03:43
It sounds very conducive for writing horror. Dr. Melanie, how about you?

Greg
03:48
Where would you travel to?

Dr. Melanie
03:51
I'm so abstract. I mean, if it were 1 place, it would depend on what I was doing. But if it's going somewhere for creativity, I would pick some place where there'd be maybe a bunch of us and a bunch of nature and not too hot and not too cold and some kind of lecture conference things because those things tend to get my mind going.

Dr. Melanie
04:21
If I have to just sit down and finish a website, which I have to do that I just realized, I probably would just stay here and do it, but do you guys have company several times a day?

Greg
04:37
You would almost think that we met several times a day from that. Andy, how about you? If you could travel anywhere for inspiration, where would you travel to?

Andy
04:49
I would agree with Devin, actually. Shasban Islands are such a beautiful, strange and wonderful place. But I really love being creative in the Stockholm area.

Andy
05:02
No, it's fantastic. You have all these islands, we have this fantastic culture thing happening. I can't see myself in any other place. Creative.

Andy
05:16
Because I got so much energy from both these islands at 1 time, both from Bedingö and from Warnö, because it's different rhythms. In the Bedingö where I live with my wife, there's a city rhythm. And when I come out here to Tiny House, it's countryside, almost 2 crates, but it's wonderful when you're a composer. So I would say I won't stay here actually.

Greg
05:47
Yeah, tiny house is very, very beautiful. Shadows, where would you travel to?

Shadows Pub
05:54
Well, notwithstanding wherever Al's Anders hip pocket goes. I wouldn't travel, but I've often been to the provincial parks that the family has visited, most notably 1 called Chabert Lake, north of Kingston.

Dr. Melanie
06:10
Toronto. Toronto area.

Greg
06:13
Toronto.

Shadows Pub
06:14
Pardon?

Greg
06:15
Is that Toronto?

Shadows Pub
06:18
No, north of Kingston, nowhere near Toronto. It's way the hell away from people.

Greg
06:26
I don't believe it. Never, never. Jennifer, how about yourself?

Greg
06:30
Where would you travel to If you could go anywhere for creativity or inspiration?

Jennifer N
06:36
The place that I do go to that I yearn for constantly, and when that question was asked, immediately popped in my mind is West Texas, specifically in the Big Bend area around the Chisos Mountains, the Davis Mountains, Marfa, Terlingua Ghost Town, Fort Davis itself, the McDonald Observatory. Every single time I go to that part of the state, it calls me, it beckons me. And I haven't been in a while, and I've been trying to make arrangements to go for the last 2 years.

Jennifer N
07:13
And I'm at the point of frustration because of just how creative and liberating and freeing that part of the state is for me. And I didn't discover it early in my life. I discovered it maybe 15 years ago. And it's been like a siren calling me constantly to come back.

Jennifer N
07:32
And so that to me is my creative zen spot in the world.

Greg
07:38
Sounds really nice. Ken, how about you? You could travel anywhere for inspiration.

Ken
07:45
Well, I think about the Disneyland ride that I did as a kid, which was a fantastic voyage and having my body shrunk down and traveling inside the human body. But that's not possible yet. I think I will go to an island, actually listening to Devin and Andy speak.

Ken
08:09
I've enjoyed all my visits to any island anywhere. So yeah, there we go.

Greg
08:17
Yeah, an island would be nice, your own personal private island. Bobby W, how about you? If you could travel anywhere for inspiration, where would you go?

Bobby. W
08:27
Well, there's 1 place I go to clear my head And that's the beach. And I just, I love to sit there and my dog loves it. So that's kind of a place where I go clear my head and I'm able to kind of get back to what I need to be doing.

Bobby. W
08:45
And the other place that I just really love that I really bring notebooks and just start creating is southern Utah, by Zion National Park and St. George and that area. I have no idea why, but I love that area. I love going to Utah.

Bobby B
09:14
That's it.

Greg
09:15
Some wonderful places. Now, if I had to answer, I'm not sure but an island does sound good, like everyone else has said. But it's happened again.

Greg
09:23
Well, it's happened again, you've wasted another perfectly few good minutes listening to the Creative Work Hour podcast when you could have been doing something different. How about you? Let us know if you could travel anywhere for inspiration. Where would you go?

Greg
09:37
But in the meantime, come back again tomorrow and we will be here.
