Book: Let Them Be Not Forgotten
About the Author
Born and reared on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee’s Central Appalachia region, a lifelong resident thereof, and a self-proclaimed hillbilly, Nike Smathers writes honestly and sensitively about the people among whom he lives and works. Smathers is a retired developer and administrator of low-income housing and other non-profit anti-poverty organizations. He is also a Presbyterian Pastor who has served five churches, the largest of which had 75 members and the smallest had six attendees, having given up on keeping track of members. He and his father before him pastored the Calvary Church of Big Lick (Tennessee), Presbyterian for a combined total of 47 years. There the two of them officiated at over 200 funerals, and the eulogies in this book come primarily from that place. Smathers has previously published two books, sections in two others, and a number of periodical articles.
