Jill's question on the purpose and necessity of fear sparks a deep dive into its role in our lives.
Initial evolutionary intent: To protect us from physical harm by triggering the fight-or-flight response.
Fear as an Illusion
Over time, fear has become more psychological than physical, often stemming from learned behaviors and societal conditioning.
The modern interpretation ties fear to emotional states rather than immediate threats.

Hello, everyone, and good morning, Kim. Good morning, Jo. Good morning, everybody. What is our message for today? Big yawn. Yeah. Okay. I'm just waiting to see if there's anything. No. Okay, we're gonna go with this one.
So Jill asked a question, and she asked, what is... Was that... What is the purpose of fear? Or why do we still need fear? What is the value of fear? Yeah, the value. There we go. I can't even say value, man. Value and fear do not go together.
Okay. This is right before you call that. I asked that question, and when I asked it, what was your answer, Kim? Yeah, well. Yeah, but you're like, well, in case there's a bear and we run away from it. And that's where the word value came up. I was like, so what's the value of fear in our world? Like, I don't ever... I was... I came close to encountering a bear once in Alaska, but it was across a river. So if you call that close... Yeah. For bears who run fast, that's cool.
Yeah. So, okay. Fear is... Wow, for some of you, an illusion. Oh, okay. Now they're another chiming in here. Spirit is an illusional state; your subconscious has created into a negative state over time. But initially, it's just a... It's a chemical basically released in your body—a hormone that is released in your body: cortisol—to run away from if you were actually going to be physically attacked where you could be physically hurt.
So it's not about the emotion of being hurt; it is the physical concept of being hurt. That is where these... It's like the surge of this hormone is released into your body. And then you're like, I have now the power to run away. I have the power to fight. I have the power to be still—to be in control of my energy, of my body. I have that power.
But what has happened over time is that we have now stuck this emotion and this verbiage of fear into it because we have now been pushed into multiple times of saying, oh, that's scary! Ooh! Like, weren't you scared with that? And the person initially is like no—like should I have been? Oh my gosh! I would have been so scared! And then it just trickles.
And then on top of that, what creates that fear state to be constantly in your reality is the lack of nutrition and lack of chemical imbalances. So over time... Hold on a second—lack of chemical imbalances or lack of... Yep—chemical nutritional imbalance balance.
Okay. Yep. So when you're not... Okay. So when you're in the fight-flight and fear mode your blood rushes through the vital organs. So you get a surge into your muscles; you get a surge into your heart. Your digestive system actually stops working because you don't—you're not supposed to be able to... Oh excuse me! I need to have a bowel movement right now! Stop everything! I need to have a bowel moment! You're busy running away from a bear.
Yep! Wait! Nope! You know what? I really gotta pee! No! Everything—that whole system actually stops! So your blood gets pulled away from those areas and goes to the vital stuff that you're going to need: you need your brain; you need your heart; your lungs; and at this point your muscles.
So everything else stops at that point. So when you put your... When now it's coming down off of that high—that adrenaline rush that you get when it's coming down off of that high—then also the blood starts going back to all these vita—the non-vital organs. And everybody's like oh I'm good; I'm fine—but it takes a little bit of time; it takes some integration to go back in there.
We need nutrients to go back into these areas so we need to refuel our heart; our lungs; our muscles—we need to refuel that! Okay? And then we need to allow the blood flow into the other organs.
But if we don't have the proper nutrients and that proper like chemical imbalance to slow things down bring our heart rate down—to have all electrolytes back in balance—to have all of our greens and our veggies and our meats—all the good healthy foods—okay? Sugars are not healthy! No breads at this point!
But that's what people—they search for those carbs—they search for—that's what they think is fuel! But the carbs—no—you don't want to get them from bread! No!
I hear big loud NO! Yeah! No—it gets kind of... It does—it actually gets quite complex as to the domino effect after—you know—a spike of fear!
It's not hard; it's just complex! There's a lot of things going on and there's a process right—to rebalancing that because there were so many things that happened so quickly.
But that still brings up the like what's the value of fear? Like it's... In today's world we're engaged in a lot of fear very often we're triggering those chemicals and then we're wondering...
I had a big aha as you said that Kim—so then we're wondering like why so many people have gut problems? Yep! Yep!
Yeah this is... Oh we'll do a podcast about this—yep—they're not allowing their body to actually rest and digest!
So when you're coming down out of that fear state we're subjecting ourselves to then more illusions of fear that we've been taught can be scary!
So there's a belief system by—from what people have told us; our parents have told us—whatever—and then we put the emotion into it!
So then that creates more of this loop feedback where your digestion system actually never really gets to rest—yep—and then we get into this vicious cycle—and then your brain—the mental health state of your brain goes down south!
So then it creates more fear—it's just this big biofeedback loop—yep—a biofeedback loop.
So today I think a great thing to do would be to start interrupting that—that fear loop—yep—who as they come up—the little bits of fear—to realize like...
Because I guess the last thing I want to say about it today Kim is—you know—to me it seems that when we're triggering fear within ourselves—even if there's not a bear around—we're still triggering all those chemical reactions and processes in that complexity!
That's what I'm saying: like start to inner interrupt that loop—start to interrupt it—just slowly—that's like—it doesn't have to be a big huge—you know event—it’s just real slowly: oh oh fear!
What's the value of fear? Is there any value of fear here? Is there something else I could do here other than fear?
Yep—and in reality—the whole… If you go back to the basics—the value of fear is literally just to be safe—it’s a protective mode—it is to keep your physical body safe!
What do you need to do to keep your sight? That's all—but we've taken it to extremes!
Yeah we have! Ah—I don't… So fear starts rising up—yep—I don’t want it to feel anything so I've got to protect my emotions—I thought no—not how it started!
Yeah—like this is definitely a longer podcast—for the sake of the dailies—I can go on and on!
Yep—those easy techniques that Jill and I have been telling everybody: stop and take a deep breath and put your hand over your heart—and just feel your heartbeat!
Just trying to control the beats almost if it's beating fast when you put your hand over your heart—just taking those deep breaths—and imagine you going in there—and telling what your heart rate needs be saying: oh you're calm no—we're going to be like this!
And in your head create a beat that it's supposed to go at—create a drum beat in your head—and have your heartbeat match that drum beat in your head.
Nice! Nice! Wonderful! Good stuff Kim—thank you!
Absolutely—thank you everyone thank you Jill! Yes until next time!
