Episode Summary

Today's episode delves into the concept of authenticity, focusing on being true to oneself rather than seeking external validation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Authenticity as an Inside Job:

    • Being authentic means staying true to your desires and choices without needing approval from others.
    • The example of wearing a color you love despite others' opinions illustrates this point.
  • The Misfocus on External Validation:

    • Often, people mistake authenticity for something that needs endorsement or approval from others.
    • True authenticity is unaffected by outside judgments or criticisms.
  • Self-Judgment vs. Self-Acceptance:

    • When we seek validation and don't receive it, we may fall into self-judgment.
    • Recognizing when you're affected by others’ opinions helps in understanding your level of personal authenticity.
  • Journey Towards Authenticity:

    • Developing full personal authenticity is a journey; it's natural to feel twinges of self-doubt initially.
    • Progress is made when criticism no longer impacts your sense of self-worth significantly.

Reflective Practices Suggested:

  1. Observe moments where you seek approval – are these actions truly for yourself?
  2. Notice any feelings of hurt or judgment when criticized – how do they affect you?
  3. Practice embracing what you love confidently, even if it doesn’t align with popular opinion.

Final Thoughts:

Embrace who you are authentically by doing things because they resonate with you, not because someone else approves. It's about aligning with your truth and riding through the waves of self-discovery without succumbing to external pressures.

Thank you for tuning in! Remember, living authentically starts within—embrace it fully until next time!

Hello, lovely listeners, and good morning, Kim. Good morning, Joe. Good morning, everyone.

Today's message is current state of mind. They're funny. It wasn't. It is. It's really about... The word authentic just came in my head. Authentic with yourself and doing what's best for you, not best for other people.

Yeah, yeah. We had talked about authentic yesterday. Not in this... Not on the dailies, but in another thing that we did, and I think that's what I had mentioned, was that there's kind of a... I'll call it Ms. Focus On. For some people, on being authentic. Because authentic is really an inside job.

Yeah. If you want to wear yellow today and everybody around you is like, don't wear yellow. And you're like, but I want to wear yellow. Wear yellow. But then don't look at people to like what you're wearing then either.

Exactly. That's exactly it. You don't have to worry then. If you want to do that, then do it. But don't look for other people's opinions or judgments or likes because you're doing you.

That's the missed focus. So people say be authentic and they'll go, but I'm being authentic. And then the focus, though, is often on others endorsing that, approving it, liking it, you know, whatever.

And it's like, yeah, that's... That's where it starts to degrade and it's no longer so authentic anymore. It's authentic when you wear yellow because you want to wear yellow and people go, yellow looks terrible on you.

And that has zero effect on you.

Yep. You are then in full personal authenticity.

Yep. I mean, that's a... For most of us, that's a target. That's a journey we're working and going toward.

Right. We don't typically start there. Like, we might feel a little tinge when... If I'm wearing yellow and Kim's like, that looks terrible on you.

I might tinge a little bit or vice versa, you know? But, you know, it doesn't... It's like we bounce back from it real fast.

Then you know you're on your way.

If you drop down in your overall sense of feeling attacked or... Why don't they like that? Like, oh, there you go.

That is... You just went in a state of self-judgment.

That means you are really not being authentic in why you're wearing that color yellow.

Self-judgment.

That's what I was trying to get to too.

That's awesome.

Yeah. You went into a state of self-judgment like why doesn't Kim like that color? I wore this color; I like this color; I wanted her to like it because if she likes it too then I feel okay.

And it's like, oh no—that's all... No. You're Kim-focused or other-focused?

Yep.

Oh yeah. Things realigning today.

Right. It's big and beautiful to have this one coming through.

It's just... Ah! Amazing.

All right, well lots of yawns...

Oh this one...

Yeah...

Sit with it.

Just pay attention today what you do for yourself.

And are you looking for others' approval or do you feel little self-judgment or feel hurt by somebody who says you did something wrong but you did—you wanted to do it for yourself?

Sit with that for a minute.

Yeah.

Should just be really comfortable and say well this is what I like so I gotta do it.

Yep. It's not harming anybody...

Yeah I'm good.

Or even ride the ups and downs of your self-judgment a little bit where you're just kind of going ooh okay I took that personally...

And play with it though...

Don't take it personally; play with it.

Yep.

Well thank you Kim.

Yeah thank you Jill.

Thank you everyone.

All right until next time.
