Key Topics Discussed

  • Nature's Background Music: The soothing sounds of birds set a tranquil scene for today’s conversation.

  • Insect Encounters:

    • Jill shares humorous stories of her interactions with bugs at home, highlighting instinctual human reactions versus mindful responses.
    • Kim reflects on a fly landing on her arm, prompting an internal dialogue about overreactions and harm perception.
  • Mindful Reactions:

    • Discussion on the automatic survival response when encountering bugs and how it contrasts with more conscious awareness.
    • Emphasizing gratitude for modern comforts compared to historical living conditions where insect presence was common.
  • Exploring Mindfulness Through Brain Sides:

    • Understanding left-brain (ego/human experiences) vs. right-brain (spirituality/energy connection).
    • How tuning into different brain sides can aid in processing thoughts mindfully.
  • Developing Mindful Curiosity:

    • Encouraging listeners to engage in 'brain play' by observing which side of their brain is active during various situations.
    • Recognizing signs like repeated numbers or increased awareness as indicators that one's mind is already practicing mindfulness.

Practical Takeaways

  1. Buggy Mindfulness Practice: Next time something "bugs" you—literally or figuratively—pause to question your reaction without judgment. What are you really responding to?

  2. Brain Side Awareness: Experiment daily by checking which side of your brain feels more engaged during activities or thoughts; use this insight for personal growth.

  3. Embrace Signs Without Overanalysis: Notice patterns such as recurring numbers or heightened nature awareness as affirmations rather than seeking external meanings immediately.

  4. Transform Your Mind Into a Tool: Shift perspective from being ruled by your mind to using it constructively throughout your day for better emotional regulation and decision-making.

Closing Thoughts

Kim encourages embracing the weekend with playful exploration into 'brain play.' Remember, mindfulness isn't just a concept but an actionable practice that enhances life quality through simple shifts in perception and thought processes.

Hello lovely listeners and good morning Kim. Good morning, Jill. Good morning everyone. How's everyone? Love Jill's background. The birds, it sounds so lovely. When we first got on our phone call together, that's the first thing I heard. And it totally tracked me in. Just saw the birds but. And then it went into the animals, the insects that are in our space lately.

Yes. I was sharing with Kim that last night, I'm in our kitchen, my husband and I are talking, we're laughing, we're just in a very calm, funny, light hearted space. And all of a sudden there's something crawling on my foot and I'm like, what's on me? And I whack it off of me, get it off of me. And I look and I just start laughing because my, my reaction to it, that automatic like kind of survival reaction because my brain doesn't yet know what's on me. I just know there's something on me and then I see what it is and it was just so funny. I was like, all right, that was a little over the top.

And then I shared with Kim also that this morning I'm laying there and I'm still very peacefully, still asleep. It's early morning, it's maybe like five, so the sun's up because it's summer, we have long, long days. And you know, I'm laying there and I'm just cozy, cozy yet. And then there's a spider walking across me. And just like that you jump and you hit it off of you and it's like, get off of me.

Yep. And then I don't know how much longer later it was, I dozed off again, but the spider came back and then I was like, you need to get off of me. And that was my alarm clock. Couple bugs, couple spiders on me.

And I was telling Kim, I then at some point started really just thinking about one. My reaction my mind was really calm and so my reaction to those bugs was more in the moment, more like kind of that just survival thing. Like we don't as humans tend to like things crawling on us.

No.

But then I started thinking about how lucky I am that I get to sleep night after night after night without bugs crawling on me. It's very unusual. And how at one point in human history for most people it was quite common to have bugs on them.

Yeah, yeah.

And I was telling Jill that I had a fly that had landed on my arm and he was just sitting there in a first, you know, get off me. You know, you get annoyed when they'll when they're crawling on you.

Yeah.

And he literally came back and started crawling on my other arm, and I did not react. I sat there and I'm—I was asking my mind and my brain like what's he doing to you? What harm is he actually causing you that you have to panic right away, that you have to freak out? What is he doing to you?

Like,

I don't—like you're calling on me.

Okay,

so...

And then it went into,

well,

you might bite me.

And it wasn't even—it's like in my head; I was hearing kind of laughter like,

okay,

so if he bites you is that going to cause you harm?

Like,

not a big deal.

And then I just kind of got more creative with it. I was just asking random questions until my brain was just like,

oh,

okay.

Oh he's done here.

And then I just moved my arm and he was gone.

And he never came back.

But it's like those things that bug you; it's kind of getting a little curious with them.

It's not supposed to be the overreactive.

It's more like if you do react,

whoa,

why are you reacting?

Why are you going to that extreme?

To bring the mindfulness into that moment then?

Yeah.

So it's like buggy mindfulness.

I like that.

Yeah.

And Kim I've said so many times to you; I'm not sure how many times we've actually talked about it on this podcast but I just have such an admiration for your ability to go into your brain and your mind and just like slowly walk things through a series of questions and you like do it; you've been doing it for so long; you are like expert to the nth degree at it.

And so I was sharing with you that I was really quite impressed that something like a fly on you walking across you caught your attention because you bring so much mindfulness to your life that for a fly usually I think most days you would have just been like it's a fly whatever move on.

It wasn't like important enough to graduate to the mindfulness curiosity let's find out what's going on here usually that's more for your work your clients.

And so that stood out to us too we were like okay

I am hoping for those listening that perhaps they're noticing those things that used to bug them in their mind are going slower; that they're not bugging them as much; and they are able to bring that curiosity and that questioning like you do Kim so masterfully to their life because it's a skill;

That is what I want to say;

like crazy valuable;

like off the charts when you can very;

like I'll call it slowly;

it still goes fast but it doesn't go so super fast;

you can't be involved in it which is what happened to me the first time the bug got on me last night;

it was so fast;

I wasn't involved in the process;

The next few that happened;

I was involved because it's like okay;

I can slow this down and ask the questions;

And Kim;

I think when you say your brain;

you tune in and

like figure out what side of your brain

Right?

Is that

Yeah.

Can you just share a little bit more about that because

I think that's so important?

Yeah.

My left side of my brain,

I—

I mean most people call it the ego;

It's more the human brain;

It's the human experiences that we've gone through

that we've been told what to kind of believe in

So a lot of the belief systems are stuck in that left side;

And then for me my right side is more—

What do you call your spirituality or connection to source

But it's basically a connection to energy

a connection to all that is

And there's a

There's a different vibration when you can just connect and just be

And almost like feel the vibration off the insect or you're hearing something

a different message than what you would normally have told yourself

Right?

So sometimes there's a little contraindication in your head

like a conversation that just goes on

and it's more to help you get out of your possible belief systems

that maybe you question maybe you'd doubt maybe it helped you see a different perspective

It's when that's happening there's that conversation going on

Yeah.

And I took the—

I've been playing with this last few weeks

and took a moment after that first bug was crawling on my foot

and later on like think it was after spider

then this morning

and just reflected back on it

and I was like

you know what?

When that first bug was on my foot

I was all on left side of my brain

and in left side of our brain as you said is more human side because does right side right brain goes opposite side of...

and I was like oh my goodness!

I was instantly all in human—like "I gotta survive! There's something on me!"

and it was fascinating Kim!

and then realized after spider second spider i tuning as i reflecting i could feel myself much more in right side brain looking at how fortunate i am gratefulness i don't have bugs all time because i wasn't thinking through i tapping into what's this all about?

and I'd never done until started talking about literally tuning into sides brain so think wonderful tool can't even tell how getting started with it i'm oh incredible takes mindfulness which mindfulness is kind this what does mean gives mindfulness very tactile physical experience gives framework we wrap minds around play with that's what i think becomes very oh okay can do where mindfulness is kind kind i mean i get but what does mean?

Yep yeah yeah lot information lot classes take well join us as well talk about mindfulness lot times being okay all different types conversations being okay hearing thoughts what want call having different conversations head not judging them Just sitting back whoa brain active today wow kind get curious not angry Just curiosity being mindful yeah yeah with this brain kind brain play do when getting started if can play once day two times three times figuring playing what side feels really active becomes kind want say addictive because very fun because very fun slowly think Kim years grew bringing mindful curiosity brain play consistently throughout day don't think about occurs now for yep there's lot people when learning aspect want look clues cues all over place lot people hear see numbers 1111 222 333 combination numbers they're angels all around us which they are okay not saying but lot times people need see those numbers see sign know pushes back mind if seeing signs say numbers or being pulled recognizing insects around or things bugging you're actually doing work already mind already mindful yeah no don't have look big answer don't look book what does 222 mean google search more whoa actually being mind wow cool okay think being mind means take as mind become tool for mind isn't who are mind use tool throughout day serving not ruling think really important yes awesome yeah oh man feel message i'm all done yes this one friday goes weekend yeah play brain play thank jill thank everyone yeah thank kim alright until next time
