Editing software has come a long way and is continuing to evolve all the time. You can remove certain words like “um” and long pauses, but background noise, like barking dogs and televisions are much harder to cleanly remove from an episode without degrading the quality. Your recording space, which may not be an actual studio, should be a place where you are removed from people and animals, a place where you can sit comfortably without a squeaky chair, and be ready to hit mute if you’re going to sip on water or coffee. Those slurping sounds are not sexy unless you’re creating an ASMR podcast, in which case, slurp it up. And of course, try to avoid typing or clicking your mouse while recording, as those light clicks almost always come through loud and clear.
