In this bonus episode of The Shameless Wisdom Podcast with Natacha Guyot, PhD, I share details, backstory, and more about my latest book release On the Clitoris: Claiming Validity in Scientific Research.

Welcome to the Shameless Wisdom Podcast where we rebel against patriarchy bullshit and help you stand in your power to take aligned to action.

If you are interested and passionate about women's health and sexual wellness, my latest book release is for you.

I recently released On the Clitoris: Claiming Validity in Scientific Research, and it is now available in eBook format at multiple retailers.

I will drop the link in the description below.

In this book announcement video, I want to share not only what the book is about, what is the story behind how this book came to be, why releasing it now, and how it ties into my work.

First of all, I'd love to share the book globe with you.

Sexuality has always fascinated humanity, yet much of the focus has been skewed towards male sexuality, overshadowing the significance of the clitoris and the female orgasm. "On the Clitoris: Claiming Validity in Scientific Research" by Natacha Guyot, PhD, dives into this disparity, exploring the historical and cultural biases that have hindered scientific inquiry into female sexuality, especially the clitoris.

Despite significant breakthroughs in the 21st century, there remains a vast terrain for scientific exploration regarding the clitoris and non-cisgender male orgasm. Guyot critically analyzes the impact of androcentrism and reproductive bias in contemporary medical research. She also explores how intersectional feminist values have begun reshaping scientific perspectives, advocating for a more inclusive and comprehensive approach to studying women’s sexuality.

Written initially as part of a doctoral project at the University of Texas at Dallas, this work focuses on cisgender women but acknowledges the need for broader inclusivity in future medical studies, research, particularly in the face of current challenges to women’s and LGBTQIA+ rights.

So what's the story behind this book?

As briefly mentioned in the blurb, it started as a doctoral project while I was pursuing my PhD at UT Dallas a few years ago.

Although my major was in Aesthetic Studies, which basically means film and media studies, my original background and expertise, creative writing, storytelling, my minor was in philosophy, which we called history of ideas at UT Dallas.

For my minor work, I primarily worked on feminist scholarship in science and religion.

I had the honor of being a fellow for the center for values in Medicine, Science, and technology for several semesters when I had to work on a research project.

For this fellowship, I decided to focus on medical research on the clitoris, especially the biases that had impacted it, and the progress that had started to emerge.

That was such an interesting topic, especially as an intersectional feminist who really advocates for women's pleasure in sexual wellness.

I also got the opportunity, while I was finishing this project, to be invited to present it by the director of the Centre for Values on the panel moderated at the 50th meeting of the North Texas Philosophical Association.

The fun part being that I basically spoke to a room full of men except one woman was sitting first row. And there were glances exchanged.

I was just presenting on the clitoris and what work remained to be done.

Let's say that many of them in present were just like staring at me, wondering where the closest exit door was.

As a French person, I had no qualms talking about this type of topics, including in front of a room full of men.

I think the issue was more on the inside than mine, but up to this day, I really hope that it helped them gain some new insight and maybe starting conversation with their spouse (if their spouse had a clitoris), as I saw several of them wearing wedding bands.

And why did I choose to publish this book now, ss my fellowship was a few years ago?

Well, after over a decade spent in academia, even though my career has taken a different tragedy in the recent years, I have a backlog of research papers.

And instead of them gathering digital dust on my computer, this year I decided that I wanted to start publishing this backlog and organize it in a way that would be relevant and engaging for the general public.

Because let me tell you, for years I have repeatedly committed the blasphemy of choosing indie publishing for my research papers.

Of course, I have presented at multiple conferences, guest lectured, and published in various, you know, academic papers and even books.

But in my opinion, most research papers are meant to be shared with the general public.

And I really want my work to be available because I believe in its value and not just to be sitting on an academic library bookshelf.

Among these books, there are some that will be short eBooks, like On the Clitoris, and others will be more comprehensive volumes, but more on that next year.

I decided to start with On the Clitoris because it made a lot of sense, especially with the type of work and framework I have been building over the course of the past months.

Because some of my work has been really focusing on women's sexuality in a sexual or non-sexual way, and also helping them embrace their inner wisdom and their sovereignty and their right to pleasure in different services I have been offering, whether for my community on Patreon, the Shameless Lair, or even for one-on-one work and more to come in the next few weeks and months.

One of the key elements of the work I am doing in that regard is providing safe and including spaces to talk and learn about centrality and pleasure in a way that removes us from the patriarchal and Puritan conditioning and instead in a way that helps us find our truths, explore our desires and find what brings us, women and gender-expansive individuals, enjoyment and pleasure.

So here you have it.

This is what my latest book On the Clitoris: Claiming Validity in Scientific Research is all about and how this project came to be and why I'm publishing now in light of my current work.
