Ep. 226 Having a Flexible Mind

Have a flexible mind

For so long I was so unmoving and rigid in my thinking, and I think it comes with being young and thinking you know it all. As you get older you start to realize all the wisdom that you gain from hard times and maybe a true rigid way of thinking. I decided to go on a quest many years ago to open my mind to other possibilities and have discussions that may cause offense and may challenge the way I think.

I know that there are over 7 billion people I the world so what we tend to do is just agree with the majority or with the people we love and trust and that eliminates having to do all the homework ourselves.

I was sitting in reflecting about the fact that because I have a lot of myself to have a flexible mind that it has enriched my life. And there are many areas in my life where this is true. In politics I’ve gone from one end of the spectrum to the other because of all of the knowledge and things that I have decided to look into myself and read and learn and grow.

And the same thing goes with a victim mentality. I went from one extreme to the other of being the victim of my circumstances to actually taking responsibility of what it is that is my portion in the situation and changing it.

In finances I have opened my mind to not be so limited in my thinking about investing in myself, investing in other things, instead of having unreasonable debt and squirreling away nickel and dime thinking that’s the way to do it when in fact it’s causing lack in my life.

These examples are the reason that I challenge myself because it enriches my life.

It has made me more intelligent, less reactive, a better coach, a better mother, a better wife, a better coworker, a better business owner, a more empathetic human in society.

Because I won’t allow the masses of one opinion to skew what I should discover for myself.

Do yourself a favor and have a flexible mind and don’t be a lazy thinker.

I love the way Jordan Peterson in his book “12 rules for life” says “You need to place one foot in what you have mastered and the other in what you still need to know. This is the position where the terror of existence is under control where you are secure but also alert and engaged.’
