Episode Summary

https://thelegendarywhispers.com/ In the annals of R&B History, the Whispers have earned a solid and memorable position as one of the World's Longest Running Vocal Groups. Celebrating over 55 years in the industry, they are still performing at major concerts, private parties, weddings, and cultural events. They are the cream of soul, embellishing smooth romantic ballads such as "Lady," and "Say Yes," and upbeat dance favorites such as "Rock Steady," "And the Beat Goes On," and "It's a Love Thing." As one of the premier groups to ever grace the stage, their musical success can be attributed to a careful balance of soul, pop, jazz, blues and disco to the delight of millions of fans. They began in 1964 with five, and had only one member change in 1973 of Leaveil Degree's addition due to Gordy Harmon's injured larynx. Then with the passing of Nicholas Caldwell and Marcus Hutson, they have continued to thrive with the trio of Wallace "Scotty" Scott, Walter Scott and Leaveil Degree. They have 33 top ten hits, over 40 charted singles, and 20 multiple gold and platinum albums. In 2020, they released their social justice single, "How Long," now in 2021 they've returned to their soul roots with, "It's Been Too Long." Their five decades of accomplishments have been acknowledged by induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame, and Bay Area Blues Society Hall of Fame. They have received the NAACP Image Award, the Black Music Academy Living Legends Award, the Governor's Award from the S.F. Chapter of Grammy, the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joseph Biden, The "Legends" award from the 2022 Black Music Honors, and Honorary Doctorates from the Christian Bible Institute of Houston, Texas.
